Kansas Statewide Transgender Education Project (KSTEP) is excited to announce the inaugural Kansas-Oklahoma LGBTQ+ Youth Summit - okamp. The initiative is being planned and facilitated by KSTEP, along with Equality Kansas, Kansas State University LGBT Resources Center, Beacon Youth Group (Topeka), and Youth Equality Services (Oklahoma City). Additional groups are expected to join in the effort to make this happen.

Tentatively set for August 10-12, the summit will bring together youth of diverse gender identities and sexual orientations from Oklahoma and Kansas, and beyond, for a weekend of networking, leadership training, program development, and just plain food, fun, and friendship.

Many details are yet to be decided, but the planning process has been underway since October. “We know we will need many volunteers, transportation, parental approval, specific programming, team-building activities, guidelines, and so much more.”, says Stephanie Mott, Executive Director of KSTEP. “We are starting to raise the funding needed to make this summit available to anyone who would like to attend, regardless of financial resources.”

Donations can be accepted through the KSTEP website at A funding site is expected to be available soon. For more information, please contact KSTEP at
