Alyssa Bryant:

Alyssa J. Bryant graduated with distinction in 1987 from the University of Oklahoma College of Law. Upon graduation, she joined one of Tulsa's most prestigious law firms where was a partner. She now enjoys working as a solo attorney and is a frequent speaker on transgender topics. Alyssa planned and moderated the first full-length CLE approved by the Oklahoma Bar Association on "The Rapidly Evolving Field of Transgender Law." She has now conducted four seminars approved for continuing legal education credit for lawyers in Oklahoma and/or Kansas. She is a member of the board of directors of Oklahomans for Equality and the University of Central Oklahoma’s Women’s Research Center and BGLTQ+ Student Center.

Presentation Overview:

This presentation will provide an overview on current state of the laws impacting transgender Americans. This overview will include a discussion of the oral arguments scheduled for March 28, 2017, before the United States Supreme Court in the case brought by Mr. Gavin Grimm. This program will focus on the impact of the actions of the current administration including the recent withdrawal of the May 13, 2016 Dear Colleague letter by the United States Departments of Justice and Education. This program will also discuss how various possible outcomes of Mr. Grimm’s case may impact the future of transgender law.
